Associating your channel with similar channels in your niche helps YouTube know a bit more what niche your channel is in. It also helps because, by recommending other content your viewers may like, it helps increase the “watch time” of their overall viewing session on YouTube, thus making your content appear to be more valuable to YouTube and increasing your rankings in search.
